Embed A Google Map In Your Wordpress Blog

Published by Jeff Turner at 9:14 pm under Tips & Advice

When I get the exact same question from two people in the same week, that’s a question that probably needs to be addressed to a larger audience.

The question? Can you embed a Google map right into your Wordpress blog? As you can see below, the answer is, “yes.”

The plugin you need to install is called Geopress. It can not only embed a Google map, but also a Yahoo map as well. For each you will need the respective key. For Google, that is the GoogleMaps Key, and for Yahoo it is the Yahoo AppID. I prefer Google maps, so I opted for the GoogleMaps API registration route. It takes just seconds to get your own GoogleMaps API Key.

Once you’ve installed the plugin, you can configure Geopress to set the default map zoom level and map size. You can read more about the Geopress plugin here. And, even if you don’t want to embed a map into your post, this plugin also adds location information in the form of GeoRSS to your RSS output.

Thanks Jeff, I have tried this before and was frustrated with it using a different plug-in. I have my key and I will try it with this plug-in.

    Thanks again, Jay

Thank you for writing about this Jeff. I have my API Key but I don’t know how to get Geopress uploaded to my Wordpress blog. Do you have a link that explains how to do that?

Kelly… I think you and I got this worked out. :)

You need to add: INSERT_MAP in your post for the map to show up!

Somehow the INSERT_MAP was deleted. It was here when it was posted. Going to fix now.

This is an awesome tool Jeff. I need to switch over to wordpress.org so I can use it (and also to embed realestate shows into it)!
